Join Us for Patio Sessions Tonight!

Every Thursday night in the Dallas Arts District, there’s a free showcase of some of our best local talent. Tonight’s Patio Sessions includes local singer/songwriters Doug Burr and Jacob Metcalf.

Doug Burr’s flavor of backwoods roots and smart pop hooks has been described as conjuring Lucinda Williams on a revival high. After years of wood-shedding his songwriting in Denton, Texas, Burr emerged from a local favorite to quietly winning people over receiving international press. Read more about Doug here.

The music starts at 5:30, so bring a blanket, grab some food from one of the food trucks on site and grab an iced Pearl Latte!

Food trucks in attendance include: Bombay Chopstix, Little Greek, Pompeii, My Cupcake Garden.

National Bike to Work Day

May is National Bike Month, sponsored by the League of American Bicyclists, and celebrated in communities from coast to coast since 1956. And tomorrow is National Bike to Work Day! We are proud of the many customers we have that ride their bike to our shops, and this is a great opportunity to make a statement that it is possible for bikes to be a great mode of alternate transportation.

BikeDFW and DART have partnered up to host five Bike Commuter Energizer Stations in:

GARLAND – Downtown Garland Station (Partnered with The City of Garland)
DALLAS – Akard Station (Partnered with the City of Dallas)
OAK CLIFF – Jefferson St. Viaduct (Partnered with Bike Friendly Oak Cliff)
RICHARDSON – Arapaho Station (Partnered with Bike Friendly Richardson)
PLANO – Intersection of Bluebonnet & Chisholm Trail (Partnered with The City of Plano)

DATE: Friday, May 17, 2013
TIME: 6:30-9:00 am

Here’s more about the event from DART:

DART hosting Bike to Work ‘Energizer Stations’

May weather is made for cycling in our region and Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) is celebrating cycling and National Bike to Work Day with four Bike Energizer Stations on Friday, May 17.

Cycling enthusiasts and interested persons are invited to join DART, BikeDFW and the cities of Plano, Richardson, Garland and Dallas from 7 to 9:30 a.m. at DART’s Downtown Garland, Akard or Arapaho rail stations, and at the Bluebonnet and Chisholm Trail intersection in Plano, near the Dog Park. The Bike Energizer Stations will have information about the host cities bike initiatives and offer bike promotional items, local vendor offerings, refreshments and tune-ups.

In addition, visitors can learn about a planned June 1 celebration at Main Street Gardens in Dallas to highlight the completion of Centralink. This new bicycle infrastructure through downtown Dallas connects Oak Cliff, the Katy Trail and the Santa Fe Trail. The June event is open to the public and includes a bike ride originating from the different trails, food, musical entertainment, special guests and free bike services.

Biking to work is good for the environment, good for your health, and makes more sense than ever considering all of DART’s bus and rail connections. Customers can ride their bike to any transit or rail station and use one of more than 140 bike lids to store their bicycle. They can also take advantage of bike racks on every bus and train to combine bicycles and transit. Bicycles are permitted on any DART vehicle and all Trinity Railway Express (TRE) trains. Coffee Cocktails

Sometimes, the caffeine just isn’t enough. You need something with a little more of a kick, and there seems to be a new trend that is combining coffee and alcohol. Yes, the Irish Coffee is nothing new, but there are a few more adventurous drinks being concocted nowadays. While we don’t serve alcohol at any of our shops, that doesn’t mean you can’t do a little experimenting on your own with a pound of Pearl Cup Blend! Here are a few of the more interesting coffee cocktail recipes.

Espresso Martini

1½ oz. Kahlúa
1 oz. Vodka
1 oz. espresso

Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake vigorously and strain into a martini glass.

The Truffle

1 oz. Frangelico
1 oz. Vodka
¾ oz. cold espresso

Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake vigorously and strain into a glass.

The Wake Up Call

2 oz. Vodka
1 oz. coffee
½ oz. triple sec
1 oz. milk
Garnish: three coffee beans

Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake vigorously and strain into a glass. Garnish with three coffee beans.

Coffee Negroni

2 oz coffee bean-infused vodka
1 Dolin Italian Vermouth (or Vya sweet vermouth, lighter than Martini Rosso)
1 oz Campari

Stir over ice and garnish with a pink grapefruit twist. Here’s how to infuse the vodka: Place a handful (30 to 40) of coffee beans into a bottle of vodka and allow to stand for five to seven minutes. Shake bottle and strain out the coffee beans. Replace vodka into bottle and refrigerate. This will keep for up to eight weeks.

These are just a few of our favorite creations. We’d love to hear what you come up with! Are you interested in trying out some of these coffee cocktails, or would you rather just stick with your good old fashioned cup of Joe?

The Best Coffee Songs of All Time

The conversation was started on Twitter a few weeks ago and it got us thinking: what are the best songs about coffee? This inspired us to create a list of the best songs about coffee and even some that reference our favorite beverage. And we want to hear from you too! What is your favorite coffee song?

Frank Sinatra – The Coffee Song

“And when their ham and eggs need savor
Coffee ketchup gives ’em flavor
Coffee pickles way outsell the dill
Why, they put coffee in the coffee in Brazil”

Beastie Boys – Intergalactic

“I like my sugar with coffee and cream.”

Squeeze – Black Coffee in Bed

“There’s a stain on my notebook
Where your coffee cup was
And there’s ash in the pages
Now I’ve got myself lost”

Bob Dylan – One More Cup Of Coffee

“One more cup of coffee for the road
One more cup of coffee ‘fore I go
To the valley below.”

Otis Redding – Cigarettes and Coffee

“It’s early in the morning
About a quarter till three
I’m sitting’ here talkin’ with my baby
Over cigarettes and coffee, now”

Local Favorite to Brew Up Java in New Information Center

The AT&T Performing Arts Center today announced that Dallas-based Pearl Cup Coffee will be the coffee vendor for the café space in its new Information Center, located in Elaine D. and Charles A. Sammons Park. Pearl Cup Coffee will offer coffee and tea beverages – including its signature Pearl Latte™- along with light fare and pastries.

“Pearl Cup has established itself as a local favorite for coffee lovers,” said Doug Curtis, president and acting CEO of the Center. “It has a great reputation for quality and service and a strong commitment to the community. We are excited to have a locally owned company providing coffee in this very unique space.”

The Information Center, which will also house the Center’s main box office, is scheduled to open next month. When it opens, Pearl Cup Coffee will be the only coffee shop located inside the Dallas Arts District. It will serve audiences, visitors, artists, students and workers in the District.

“The Dallas Arts District is at the center of so many of the exciting things happening today in Pearl Cup’s hometown, so being in the heart of it all at the AT&T Performing Arts Center is the perfect fit,” said Rita Davis, Vice President of Pearl Cup Coffee.

Customers can enjoy their drinks at café tables and chairs in Sammons Park. The Center also provides free AT&T Wi-Fi, Ping-Pong and foosball tables. Customers can also enjoy the free Thursday afternoon Patio Sessions concerts in the spring and fall.

The glass-enclosed Information Center was designed by Foster + Partners of London, which also designed the Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House and Annette Strauss Square. Lord Foster is a Pritzker Prize-winning architect. In addition to the box office and Pearl Cup Coffee, it will contain a visual presentation space created by AT&T.

Monday – Friday: Pearl Cup will open at 7:30 a.m. and close at 5:00 p.m. or one hour after a performance in the Arts District.

Saturday – Sunday: Pearl Cup will open one hour before a matinee performance and two hours before an evening performance at the Center. It will close one hour after the performance.

Couple Weds At Boston Marathon

Last week a story was published on Huffington Post about a couple that wed shortly after the bombings at the Boston Marathon. It just so happened that this couple was from Dallas, and they met at The Pearl Cup on Henderson Ave.

This is a testament to strength, community and love. We would like to send our congratulations to Kelli and Robert, and we wish them a lifetime of happiness. Never forget the little things and just how important they are (like sharing a mocha with each other on a Saturday morning).

Our hearts continue to go out to all those affected by the tragedy in Boston. The recovery process is just beginning, and there are many resources online if you’d like to help
